Hi Big Dreamer
So many people approach this the wrong way and give up too quickly, but I completely understand. It used to be incredibly challenging for me to sit quietly and allow my mind to relax before it wandered off with a million thoughts—things I needed to do, things I wanted to have, my neighbor’s rude comments, the weather, my rumbling stomach, my tight shoelaces, last night’s TV show, my dinner plans, the dishwasher that needed emptying, and on and on. You know what I mean—I know you do.
Here are three tips that helped me get started. Make sure you have your earbuds on:
Discover Binaural Beats Go to YouTube and search for binaural beats. You’ll find plenty of options. I have my favorites, and I’ll soon have some recommendations on my website for easy access. Binaural beats are not a sound but an auditory phenomenon that occurs when you listen to two different frequencies simultaneously. When sustained for a length of time, they can alter your brainwave activity to a slower pace. Different frequencies produce different results (more on that later).
Practice Box Breathing (4-4-4-4 Technique) Close your eyes and breathe in to the count of 4. Hold for 4. Exhale for 4. Hold the exhalation for 4. Repeat this cycle four times. This is called box breathing. It helps distract your mind as you count, calms your nervous system, and reduces stress. You can practice this anytime you feel tense.
Repeat Your Favorite Mantra Tell yourself your favorite mantra. Here are a few of my favorites: “I am enough.” “I have everything I need.” “I am worthy.” “I’ve got this.” Repeat your chosen mantra over and over. Our mind does exactly what we tell it. These affirmations act as direct commands to your central nervous system, reinforcing your sense of self-worth and importance.
That’s it! Simple, right? Practice this daily, and soon you’ll be able to access this part of your brain to start manifesting your best life. (More on that later, too.)
Xoxo, Julie
